My philosophy

I have been a photographer for as long as I can remember. I am based in The Netherlands, but my work takes me all over the world. I have a history as a professional DJ in my country as well. This is where my love for low light photography stems from, but my greatest passion has always been: travelling.

Over the years I landed numerous gigs in other photographical disciplines as well, which I collected in my Portfolio. I am fully self-taught and I always challenge myself to learn new disciplines, meanwhile trying to perfect the ones I already know a thing or two about even more. Of course this is a never ending process and I keep learning new things every single day. I do particularly enjoy working with people, where I believe it's my job to pass on my gained knowledge to others. I am quite active on social media, so definitely add me there (I always reply). I also run an active blog on this very website too.

I keep myself educated on the fast-paced developments in my field by regularly watching reviews and keeping up to date via all sorts of photography websites and news outlets from camera and lens manufacterers. I watch and follow a wide variety of photographers and content creators on social media. And... I go on photo walks almost every day if I don't have a photography gig. I also regularly travel around the country to search for and try out new gear and I enjoy just driving to a place and simply start taking photos. I love both architecture and urbex photography, so driving to a random city and shooting a series or two in that area is a common thing for me as well.

I can honestly say that love every aspect of photography: from the artistic part to the business aspect. That includes buying and trying out new gear, exchanging knowledge with other people, the entire social media circus surrounding my brand, building and updating my website, getting in touch with people who enjoy my work, walking through a muddy field in the rain in the morning to watch and capture a sunset that might not even be visible in the end... I don't think I will ever grow tired of this.

When the Covid-19 pandemic hit in March 2020, it was a bit of a blow at first because we couldn't go anywhere, but it also opened up a whole bunch of new possibilities. An acquaintance of mine once said that us photographers are creators. We create beautiful things out of nothing, armed with only a camera as our tool together with our greatest asset: our creativity. This has been my philosophy about photography ever since. What started out as a hobby turned into something beautifut. It's not just a job. Photography has become my entire lifestyle and since I am self-emplyed, I will never see it as a job. When I am hired for a shoot: I am a photographer, it's my passion and this is my story. ∎
