2023-01-20 - Reykjavik & Snæfellsnes (7 day city and photo trip)
Welcome to the Iceland blog
My first time in Iceland ever and I found out that West-Iceland in January is... brutal. But in a good way. Residing on this Western peninsula for 5 days, I truly experienced all four seasons during that time. Besides the power of nature I also visited the cities of Reykjavik and Keflavik. Here's Iceland in all of its raw beauty and splendour through my camera lens.
All photos in this section are taken over the course of 7 days back in January 2023. Special thanks to my travel agency Fotoreisspecalist (and its owner: Joël Monster) for driving us around and enabling us to see all these amazing places in such a short time span. Due to his knowledge he knew exactly when and where we needed to go to see the most spectacular sights on the peninsula. Also much gratitude to the Dutch Bever Buitensport clothing store where I got all my polar weather resistant gear and clothing from. And last but not least many thanks to my camera brand: Nikon. Without all this gear, knowledge, service and advice we would not have been able to capture these shots in the first place.
All images are shot on the amazing Nikon Z9, paired with the 14-24/2.8 S, 24-70/2.8 S and 70-200mm f/2.8 S lenses. For certain situations Hoya ND filters (10 stops) were used. All gear kept working as expected. Our clothes kept us warm, batteries didn't drain as quickly in cold temperatures as would be the case with less weather resistant models and no lenses or cameras froze over. It was a breeze to be able to keep on shooting during hail and snow storms, up to wind force 6 in temperatures as low as -18°C for up to 120 minutes at a time. It was literally no problem at all. Okay, the only problem was keeping upright because of the strong winds, for example during our time at the icy beaches of West Iceland.
Have fun diving into the photos via the links and folders below and marvel at the beauty of Iceland. Be sure to shoot me your comments if you want! This trip has me craving for more Iceland so in the future I definitely will go back to the land of Ice and Fire to capture even more of it.
